50 Plus Ministry

Sequoia, CPC’s 50+ group aims to encourage older persons towards making a difference for Christ throughout all of life.

Is “successful aging” just about good genes, diet, and exercise? Think again!

Life’s journey is a continuous process of growth, learning, and self-discovery, marked by stages of maturation, including childhood, Adulthood, and finally, Elderhood.  Scripture introduces this thought through the example of Jesus, who, as God in human flesh, was said to “grow in favor with God and man” as a youth. This means he developed a progressively deeper, more demonstrable relationship with both God and those around him, maturing into a person of moral excellence, wisdom, and kindness.

Sequoia will deal with our maturing challenges during the Elderhood years as we live in community with others.
Just for instance,  Successful Elderhood requires attention to at least three mutually reinforcing domains:

-Intimate spiritual life with God, the life of Daniel as one example.
-Quality relational life
-Properly centered emotional life

What are the rewards of Successful Elderhood? Hundreds of scholarly studies support the understanding that attention to all of the above is associated with the preservation of cognitive function and a longer, happier life.

Sequoia meets on the third Sunday afternoon of each month (except December and April) in the Multipurpose Room at 4 PM, followed by a potluck fellowship supper. Our first meeting is on September 21, 2025.
